Offerings
There's always something happening at 317 Main Street! We offer lessons, jams, recitals, art openings; in-house workshops, lectures, volunteer opportunities; impromptu playing in the café, on the porch or in the gardens. By spring time HenryFest (our summer festival) is often the focus. Check back often to see what's on our calendar.
One-on-One Learning: Let us pair you with an instructor who truly loves to teach Music. We currently offer lessons in a wide range of acoustic instruments: voice, acoustic bass & guitar, dobra, flute, violin and fiddle, cello, harp, banjo, mandolin, piano, recorder and others-we are open to the interests of our students and teachers.
Group Music Workshops: This is a great way to learn new styles and techniques while meeting other musicians. Come see visiting performers and instructors. Learn new musical skills like songwriting or how to use your computer to make music.
Jam Sessions: Making music with others is an essential skill for a balanced musician. Facilitated jam sessions are offered five times a week with opportunities for focused ensemble playing.
Playing music by yourself is interesting and a great way to learn specific skills. Making music with others in a supported setting increases the chances of maintaining a life long passion for music. One of our goals at 317 is to reduce the occurrence of such phrases as: "I wish that I had not stopped playing" and "I just don't have time for playing music." 317 works to create an environment, that encourages more people to realize that they are musicians.
Commitment
Becoming a good musician boils down to one thing - practice! Each student is
expected to practice every day. Students are also expected to participate
in group playing opportunities at the Center and elsewhere. We encourage
parents of younger students to get involved in their child's practice,
especially by ensuring that there is time in their lives to practice their
instrument.
